Support with energy bills

Your energy supplier will apply a one-off £150 discount to your electricity bill for winter 2025 - 2026. The money is not paid to you; it is sent directly to your energy bill provider. You are eligible if you are on a low income or get the Guarantee Credit element of Pension Credit. Contact your supplier for more information on how to apply for the scheme if you have a pre-pay or pay-as-you-go meter.

You may be able to get financial help with energy-saving home improvements, such as insulation work or the repair or replacement of your boiler. You could be eligible for government support if you claim certain benefits or live in private housing. To apply, contact your local council or energy supplier to find out if they’re participating in the scheme.

This is only available in England for those who meet the eligibility criteria and whose local councils have the available funding. Should these stipulations apply, your council will arrange a home survey to assess how your home could be made more energy efficient. If they find improvements to make, your local council will organise and pay for the work.

Your local council will financially support your essential costs, such as water and energy bills, food and other vital items. Funding is for anyone who is vulnerable and cannot afford essentials. Individual councils have different eligibility criteria, so you will need to contact yours about this support.

If you’re eligible, you should receive £25 for every 7 days of very cold weather (until 31st March 2026) automatically. This means if the weather falls to zero degrees Celsius or below for 7 consecutive days, you’ll receive a payment.
