Plymouth team walk in memory of much-loved colleague

Staff in Plymouth swapped work boots for walking boots to take part in a fundraising trek in memory of a colleague.

The 30-strong team took to the South West Coastal Path to support Pete’s Dragons, a Devon charity that helps people affected by suicide loss.

More than £1,000 was raised by the walkers who stepped out from Hope Cove to remember fellow worker Henry, who died in 2023, and whose family has been supported by the charity.

The team from Elliott Road were joined by Henry’s parents who support raising awareness of men’s mental health issues. Sarah Cain, Head of Operations in Plymouth, said: “The walk was a wonderful way to remember Henry, and to raise money for Pete’s Dragons which provided invaluable support to his family and continues to help others facing the impact of suicide.

“Remembering Henry together was incredibly important for all of us, but it’s also a reminder that no one should feel they have to cope alone. If you’re struggling with your mental health, support is available, and reaching out can make a real difference. Whether it’s through colleagues, family, friends or professional services, help is there when you need it.”

Mental ill health is now the most common cause of work-limiting conditions among those aged 44 years and younger, according to the Mental Health Foundation.
