We form partnership with Nottinghamshire Wildlife Trust

We have partnered with Nottinghamshire Wildlife Trust, supporting the charity’s work to protect and restore nature across the county.

As part of the collaboration, employees have taken part in two volunteering days at Attenborough Nature Reserve this summer, contributing to habitat management and improving access for local communities.

Volunteers assisted with the removal of Himalayan Balsam, an invasive plant species that threatens native biodiversity. This work forms a key part of the Trust’s seasonal conservation efforts to protect the reserve’s delicate ecosystem.

Employees also supported willow coppicing and scrub clearance to open up pathways and maintain the health of wetland habitats. These activities help ensure the Attenborough Nature Reserve remains a thriving space for wildlife and an accessible destination for visitors.

The volunteering work is part of our wider sponsorship of Nottinghamshire Wildlife Trust, which includes funding for community initiatives and opportunities for employees to engage with nature through hands-on conservation work.

We aim to provide 14,000 hours of community engagement each year through our employee volunteering programme.

Nottinghamshire Wildlife Trust manages more than 40 nature reserves across the county, ranging from ancient woodlands to wildflower meadows. The charity works to connect people with nature, promote sustainable practices, and safeguard habitats for future generations.

Emily Green, Volunteering & Sponsorships Coordinator at National Grid Electricity Distribution, said:

“Our colleagues have really enjoyed getting involved with Nottinghamshire Wildlife Trust’s conservation work this summer. These volunteering days have been a fantastic way to support local biodiversity while giving back to the communities we serve. We’re proud to partnerwith the trust and help protect these special places for future generations.”

Emily Patrick, Partnerships and Trusts manager at Nottinghamshire Wildlife Trust added:

“The support of companies such as National Grid is vital to our ability to deliver our ambition of a wilder Nottinghamshire for everyone. Their support is a fantastic way to engage employees with volunteering and helps us improve habitats as we work to create more space for nature, It also enables us to ensure our spaces are accessible, providing opportunities for communities to connect with nature on their doorstep”
