Aberaeron to Llanfihangel Ystrad ED2 Scheme

Aberaeron is currently a Single Transformer 33/11kV Primary Substation that is located in Ceredigion and it supplies approximately 1,892 customers. Aberaeron has been identified with a Forecast increase in demand from 3.94MVA by 2028, to 8.5MVA by 2035.

This increase in demand has been estimated from the increases network resilience and operational flexibility, and it also accommodates the projected load growth which will be required for the connection of Low Carbon Technologies (LCTs) such as EV Chargers and Heat Pumps.

To ensure NGED are able to provide the demand increase which is forecasted we have assessed various options and have decided that installing a second 33kV Cable circuit from Llanfihangel Ystrad to Aberaeron is the most viable option as it resolves all the network constraints, provides the forecasted load growth at Aberaeron and provides a significant wider network benefit across the West Wales area.
