Cut-Out Inspections: Guide for Customers
We have to maintain, update, replace and record the details of all our network assets, some of which may be on land adjacent to or even inside our customer’s property.
We want to keep you and our staff safe at all times when they are working on these assets. Ahead of our visit please find below some guidance to keep all parties safe on the day of our attendance.
Planning:
- We have just started a rolling programme of inspections of cut out asset equipment (the incoming cable and fuse that supplies power to the property), and these inspections will be completed by door to door visits without any prior appointment. The contractor teams completing the visual only inspection will require to gain access to the cut out asset which is generally cited near the electricity meter.
- If a job has been raised in our database to attend the property a member of our team will call you, agree a date for the work, and agree any access required to undertake the task.
- Access to the equipment can be agreed when the appointment is booked so that the team is prepared ahead of the day of the visit. If any equipment is blocking access to our asset we would require the property owner or tenant to move this and make access to the asset clear.
On the day of the visit:
- The team undertaking the visual asset inspection will knock on the door or press any visible doorbell before stepping back from the doorstep and letting the door be opened. If nobody answers and our asset equipment is visible and accessible in an outside meter cabinet without needing to enter any gates etc. the inspection will still be completed as it is only a visual inspection.
- For any pre-planned appointments the team will knock the door or ring the doorbell, and once answered check if anything has changed with any agreed plans so that we are able to still undertake the agreed work.
- Our staff will also follow any guidance agreed with you beforehand, with regard to access to our equipment
- We will keep our work time in your property to the minimum required to undertake the task safely.
